WHAT:           RECENT VANDALISM TO THE MILWAUKEE ART MUSEUM

Milwaukee, WI – As the clean up begins, T.R.U.E. Skool was on site today at the Milwaukee Art Museum to view the aftermath of the recent vandalism. In response to the vandalism that occurred last night at the Milwaukee Art Museum, T.R.U. E. Skool would like to clarify that this is a form of graffiti known as “tagging” or “bombing” and to dispel the current myth that this was a form of gang literature.

 Although this form of tagging was done by an obvious “toy” (a term used to describe a beginner in the graffiti culture), it is against what most veteran graffiti writers would condone because of it being on the Art Museum.

 Recently, T.R.U.E. Skool along with Public Allies, held a panel discussion on the criminalization of graffiti in Milwaukee. T.R.U.E. Skool’s mission is to work together with local public officials, police and alderman to identify possible public, private and business owned space for graffiti artists to practice their art form. The recent vandalism shows that legal space in Milwaukee is a must. “If artists are not given proper attention and space, they find it on their own” says Sarah Dollhausen, Co-Founder of T.R.U.E Skool. “We can only try to prevent things like this from happening by working together to create legal spaces for graffiti artists. They require a certain amount of space and visibility.”

 “I don’t know what this dude was trying to prove…if he was trying to claim what he was doing was art, he could have at least put up a piece or made a statement with what he wrote. It’s a classic case of a toy looking for quick fame and easy props.” says local tagger “Wiser”.
