🎨 Juneteenth 2025 Arts & Culture Area Mural Contest FAQ

When and where is the mural contest taking place?

The mural contest will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, during Milwaukee’s 54th Annual Juneteenth Jubilee Parade & Festival. The contest takes place in the Arts & Culture Zone near the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Ring Street.

Live coverage will be provided by TMJ4 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

After I apply when will I be notified?

Selected artist will be notified by Friday May 24th, 2025

⏰ What is the schedule for artists on event day?

7:00 AM – TRUE Skool Arts & Culture Area setup begins

8:00 AM – Artist check-in and mural station setup opens

9:00 AM – All artists must be present and ready to begin

3:00 PM – All murals must be fully completed + Judging begins

By 5:00 PM – Winners announced

🧾 What documents do selected artists need to submit?

All selected artists must submit the following by Monday, June 1st, 2025:

A signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

A completed W-9 form

These documents are required to participate and receive any prize or stipend.

🎨 What are the rules and guidelines for the mural contest?

Murals must reflect the 2025 theme:

“Love, Life & Freedom”

Artists will receive 6 ft x 5ft (2 canvas panels) to complete on site.
Spray paint and acrylics will be provided by TRUE Skool.

Artists may bring their own signature paint or supplies if preferred.

No inappropriate language, symbols, or images will be tolerated.

Alcohol, illegal drugs, or non-prescribed substances are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification.

How will the murals be judged?

Each mural will be evaluated individually by our judging panel.

Scoring is based on three key criteria:

50% – Integration of the theme

25% – Originality and creativity

25% – Aesthetic quality and mural completion

🏆 What are the prizes?

1st Place: $1,500

2nd Place: $1,200

3rd Place: $800

All other participating artists will receive a $250 stipend!

💰 How do participating artists receive their payment?

Artists must submit a W-9 form and a personal invoice to receive any prize or stipend. Prize pickups and stipend pickups starting June 26, 2024 pending receipt of w-9 and personal invoice.

Will the event be recorded?

Yes. TRUE Skool reserves all rights to record and distribute video, audio, and photography from the event for publication and promotional purposes.

Who Keeps the Art?

TRUE Skool reserves all rights to Artwork created at the event / contest.
